We're very lucky that Oh Yeah! Cartoons keeps getting so many excellent pitches. Keep 'em coming!

^_^ And he is well deserving of having his works be no TV too. He's an amazing character designer.

Your not seriously making this for Oh Yeah! maybe this would be a better handled by DIC circa 1984, or hey! even the better suited for those people remaking He-Man.

I'll be short and somewhat brutal; The characters lack consistency with each other. ( The Viking looks alot "cartoonier" than his other more serious looking counterparts. ) Although placing random characters with each other can be a great perc, styling characters in a completely different fashion from the other might make the characters become out of place in their environment, thus the concept is at risk of becomming a failed pitch.
Besides that, only one must wait and see how the actual cartoon is produced, and whether or not this flaw will make it it's downfall.

Honey, if you don't like it, why are you looking at it? Your desperate rants really seem to reflect your jealousy...Sorry to be so short and brutal.

It just goes to show that even ripoff artists can get their foot in the door. ;)

Anyone with any experience working in animation, among other jobs in entertainment, knows that luck and being at the right place at the right time has a lot more to do with snagging opportunities than how original or talented a person is...It helps to BE those things, but, well.....Nobody said this industry was fair...What can ya do but keep trying and hope you end up the lucky person with the good quality product showing up at the right place at the right time? *shrug*

Hmmm, the preceding comments brings up a few issues that would good to answer. (Of course, we certainly disagree with your assessment of the art.)

1) The pitch related posts on this blog are preceisely that: pitches. They're ideas people have kindly brought to show us; we'll make decisions on which shorts we're making after we've seen lots of storyboards.

2) We would be fools to produce cartoons solely based on how they look. It's how much we like the stories, the creator(s), and the characters. And then the drawings. I've made the mistake before by greenlighting films primarily based on style, and I fight that tendency. Some of the funniest films I've ever been involved with are from less than fantastic designers. And some of the most boring ones have been from fantastic artists.

My own belief is that it's short sighted for anyone to make judgements based on a little piece of information.

3) We'll seriously consider anything from anyone who's put their hard work into pitching us a film. Maybe it's sappy, but that's how I am.

Ahh...this one goes out to the lady/sir that insisted that I was jealous of Mr. Dickman's talents...
Hahaahahah, my goodness...how you got the idea of jealousy from my comment on inconsistency of character design is beyond me. I never said I was envious of his work

It may be easy to point out that if you don't like it, look away from it. However, if people strive to make a good show and a first impression in the animation world, they should expect crits and even fault points. If all there was is positive crits and comments to someone's work, the artist would not progress as well as they should.
Now as for my last statement, no one knows if this cartoon will pull off with grace or not. If it does then, great! One more point towards sucess in the animation buisness.
I am not looking for a war between opinions, however I would advise you to please re-read things over before you cry out false accusations such as 'jealousy'.

I happen to agree with the poster who's pointing out inconsistencies between characters. The Viking IS a lot more cartoony than the other characters. That might just stand out - in the wrong way. I don't know if it could work or not. The only way of knowing that is to see it in action. But, like the other critic, I have some doubts. I'll wait and see though.

But to be so quick to claim one is "jealous" just for pointing out this could-be flaw of the cartoon? Sheesh, that's a little rough. The inability to take even the smallest bit of constructive criticism is another thing that could lead to failure for not only the cartoon, but the artist in general. Which is a shame - seeing how good he actually IS with character design. Can't help but wonder how good he COULD BE if he listened to some helpful advice.

Ah, I wish him luck with the 'toon anyway.

Ahhh, I see, Mr. or Ms. Short and Brutal, I must apologize for calling you on your particularly needless, nasty and acutely focused ripping (let's call it what it is, yes? "constructive" criticism is the last thing you were intending). I call it jealousy because I see plenty of other projects in this blog you could be "constructively" criticizing in the same way, yet, somehow you seem to have zeroed in exclusively on Mr. Dickman's work. Please freel free to correct me if I'm wrong, won't you? It sounds like a specific vendetta to me, is all.

I'm not too sure if that latest post was directed to me or the original poster. I'm the one who called the original post "constructive criticism", because that's the way I read it. Sorry, if I'm wrong, but I still see it that way. If the last post was directed to me, I don't see any reason to attack me just for agreeing with the other person. I'm sorry to have opened my mouth, or in this case - typed on my keyboard.

:barfs: Pretty gross-looking character designs. Especially that big blue thing.
